Worry-Fear

“What the amygdala is to fear, the BNST is to anxiety,” says Neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux. Science has now shown the definitive link between negative emotions and disease. The cure? As it’s been said throughout the ages, “The best cure for the body is a quiet mind”, but HOW do we achieve this….

Your mind and brain are driving your “show” in every way possible, not a thing happens in your body or life that doesn’t have its origin in this core, truly NOTHING…

If there’s ANY aspect of your life at all that isn’t quite to your liking, you’re in the right place, read on my friend…

Perhaps you’ve heard of the Amygdala, the fear centre in your brain that is perfectly designed to keep you safe by launching the fight-flight-freeze response, a primitive/primal structure that serves as the driver of the emotions, using them VERY often to overpower our rational mind?

The amygdala sllows humans to gain a few precious extra seconds in fleeing an attacking bear or jumping out of the way of an oncoming car. There was a “slow” or “high road” in the mind so to speak, one which runs through the cortex, the more reasonable part of the brain. And there’s the “fast” or “low road” that travels directly to the defensive and survival oriented areas of the brain, which allow us to react instantaneously, the “fight-flight” reflex launched by the sympathetic nervous system (the reaction that shuts OFF our Vagus Nerve’s healing capacity).

The amygdala helps explain how the human brain processes fear that is physical, triggered by an immediate threat in one’s environment. But it didn’t entirely explain anxiety (an emotional perceived threat with no physical basis), which is what we feel when we are worried about the possibility of misfortune or challenges in the future.

In the 1990s, researchers identified a tiny structure that played a key role in how rodents dealt with “ambiguous threats”; ones that didn’t place them in immediate danger. Called the Bed Nucleus of the Stria Terminalis (BNST), it was about the size of a small seed and is located near the amygdala, often referred to as part of the extended amygdala.

While the amygdala appears to be the brain area primarily involved in activating the fight-flight response, the BNST launches into action when we have reason to remain hypervigilant emotionally; that hormone-driven state of hyperarousal we feel in our bodies when we are tense in the face of uncertainty.

“What the amygdala is to fear, the BNST is to anxiety,” LeDoux says.

We ALL need to understand the BNST because SO many of us, and our children are tormented by anticipation of an unpredictable event in the future leading us to feel “trapped” in our mind often causing a chronic and maladaptive vigilance to the environment.

When our brain “perceives” stress and launches a reaction, chemicals are released through our nervous system and blood (hormones) that become programmed reactions that continue to loop in an addictive (meaning it feels unstoppable) fashion until we get sick and tired (which is inevitable if this reactionary system is allowed to “run” us) enough to actually look for the deeper reason; MIND…

This feels a bit like living in groundhog day experiences, triggered into negative emotions constantly, unable to maintain a sense of peace and presence, obsessive/endless thoughts…

Unfortunately, the very real physical consequence of this threat reaction is that the Vagus Nerve is disabled, our healing ally, which when activated and optimised HEALS the body and overturns the damage done by the STRESS response…

“If you think of an analogy of the brain being like the world, and neurons being like people, and you want to understand how information is propagated across the world, you would say, ‘yeah, it’s important to know where someone lives, I guess,'” she Dr Tye of Salk Institute. “But it’s way more important to know what they’re saying, who they’re saying it to, who’s listening and how do the people that are listening respond? How are those messages sent and filtered to different corners of the brain?”

It seems that science has finally validated Buddha, Ghandi and countless other spiritual thought leaders; “Mind is Life”…

It comes down to this, the focus for living an extraordinary life with the health that we’re actually endowed with NEEDS to be “Mind”. Fear and Anxiety/Worry need to be resolved, nothing else we do will EVER set us free, it’s impossible…

We are MORE than our bodies and have SUPERPOWERS galore that so few of us ever learn about and it’s time to blow the whistle and END the needless suffering of mind that’s driving ourselves and our kids SICK, TIRED & DEAD…

Watch the video below if you’re REALLY ready to break free, I EXPOSE the steps that will guarantee your return home, to that ancient place of eternal stillness within, where Divine flow and indescribable happiness are the “prize”…

With lashings of love & compassion, Sal x
